Virginia "Grandma Ginny" Schugk
Virginia Dixon Schugk
St. George, UT - Virginia Dixon Schugk, age 86, passed away on February 27, 2009 at home in St. George, Utah. She was born June 4, 1922 in Provo, Utah to Charles Owen and Virginia Elizabeth Beckstead Dixon and married Percy John Schugk in the Salt Lake Temple on February 14, 1947. Virginia was raised in Provo and lived most of her adult life in Taylorsville. She was very patriotic and served her country as a member of the WACS in Italy during WWII. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions, including Relief Society President and Young Women’s President. She served as a Seminary Teacher, Temple Worker and Missionary in the Chili Concepcion Mission with her beloved husband, Percy. An avid genealogist and researcher, Virginia traveled the British Isles searching out her ancestors she loved so much. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, serving as Captain of the English Fort in Taylorsville, Utah and secretary to Kate B. Carter of the Central Company. Virginia served on the Endowment Committee of the Festival of Trees for the Primary Children’s Medical Center. Her creative touch added beauty to all around her. She enjoyed flower gardens, crafts, decorating and showing love to family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy John Schugk. Survivors include son, Dennis C. Schugk (Beverly); daughters, Suzette Bowles (Brent), Nancy Mendenhall (Ronnie), Judy Schugk and Sonjia Schugk. She has 29 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Parliament Park Ward Chapel, 1510 W. Parliament Ave. (3940 S.), West Valley City, Utah. Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be in Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, Utah. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-674-4221.

Hey Jackie,
I am so sorry about your grandma, she sounds like a wonderful person! It is so crazy how many people you can catch up with through the blog and facebook world! Your son is a cutie! I bet 8 is a fun age for him:) How is your mom and dad??? I loved going boating with them for drill team. Take care and it is good to see how you are doing!
